You can try to speed the exfoliation process by gently scrubbing the skin with a washcloth or sponge. DO NOT OVER SCRUB! It may take a week or more for the “tanned” skin to disappear.
- Is Extravaganza Tan safe?
- YES! According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most effective products available are sunless or self-tanning products that contain dihydroxyacetone (DHA) as the active ingredient. DHA has been used in cosmetic preparations for almost 30 years and was listed with the FDA in 1973. It is declared safe and suitable for use in cosmetics and drugs used to color the skin. DHA is derived from glycerin (vegetable origin), which is a commonly used cosmetic and food ingredient. DHA is not absorbed into the body and poses no possibility of toxicity.

- How long after the application can I go in water or sweat?
- We recommend about 8 hours. Sunless tan longevity varies from person to person and according to your lifestyle. Long exposure to water will fade your Extravaganza Tan. Your outer cells will start to soak up water, which dilutes the effect of the tan. The longer you are in the water, the lighter your tan will get. Be sure to moisturize every day, this helps maintain the tan.
- How can I minimize exfoliation from hot tubs, swimming pools and the ocean after I get an Extravaganza Tan?
- After your tan has developed and after your first post-tan shower, you can minimize water activity exfoliation by liberally and frequently apply a good, strong waterproof sunscreen (such as Bullfrog, Iguana, Blue Lizard or others) before submersing yourself. These are very durable brands and can help protect your tan from fading.
- Will Extravaganza Tan stain my pajamas or sheets?
- The color guide will wash off your skin after your first post-tan shower. But until then, the color application guide in Extravaganza Tan will stain some fabrics (For example: nylon, silk, wool and polyester). However, a good soaking in water will usually lift the stain from the fabric. Most fabrics and materials are completely safe — if the Extravaganza Tan color rubs off on any other fabric it will simply wash out. Many have reported that the Oxy cleaning products, like Clorox’s non-bleach Oxygen Action, do a great job.
- Should I shave before or after the visit to Extravaganza Tanning salon?
- Shaving is a form of exfoliation so you should shave about 8 hours before the application. Shaving after will take off some of your tan, so shave before. After your application, be sure to use a new razor as old dull blades can spoil your results.
- If I have the Extravaganza Tan airbrushed under my arms should I remove any deodorant?
- Yes. For the best result remove deodorant and moisturize under arm. Wait 3 hours to reapply deodorant. It may turn green when deodorant is reapplied. If so, the green will rinse off in the shower.
- Can a person UV tan on top of an Extravaganza Tan?
- Of course! But just remember that the Extravaganza Tan does not provide any sunscreen protection, so you should apply sunscreen accordingly. With an Extravaganza Tan Airbrush Tan, your skin will appear tan, even though it’s not. This is an artificial tan. There is no Sun Protection Factor (SPF) in the Extravaganza Tan Airbrush Tan, so your skin is still exposed and vulnerable to the sun. If you choose to expose your skin to UV rays either from the sun or a tanning bed, it is important to use a lotion with SPF to protect you from the sun’s harmful rays.
